So, can anyone tell me where the best place to start is? I've never really watched too much gundam. And want to give it a try. The First series I ever really saw was G Gundam. My buddy and I picked that up in Hong Kong a few years, but there were no subs so he was an intermediate. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, if you really want to get into it then I would say start way back at the beginning of it all with Mobile Suit Gundam and go from there.
If you'd rather try an AU first, then I suggest giving Gundam X a shot.
hope this helps you out.

Most newbies to Gundam seem to like Wing the best, but it seems to make them biased to everything else, so I'd say pretty much what Nimrod said, star with the originals (0079, 08th MS team)
you might also want to check out SEED, which is rather popular now, and happens to incorporate alot from the original, and has its own twist to it.

my recommendation would be to buy the Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy boxset. It's the first series condensed into movie form, and is well worth the money. If you can overlook the dated look of it (it's not that bad really) it's got a good story and strong characters. A good place to start and see what you think to the franchise.
